Application (2008-09 deadline TBA)
Applications must be completed and returned by due date to be considered. Only original applications will be accepted, no copies, facsimiles or electronic reproductions. The application and three 100 word or less essays must be returned it to the Cameron Boyce Memorial Scholarship Fund by mail via ySTRIVE for Youth, Inc. P.O. Box 41641, Santa Barbara, CA 93140 or hand delivered to La Cuesta High School main office. The 2008-2009 Application will be available after January 15th 2008.
Essay Questions
Essay Question should be answered in 100 words or less. Typed or hand written are accepted as long as hand writing is legible. We cannot rate your essay if we cannot read it.
The Questions
1. What is the biggest Struggle you have had to overcome while in high school?
2. Is there someone you know, personally that you would give honor to as being your hero, and why?
3. It is important to "Lead by Example"? Explain how the example of completing your college education will lead others and be helpful to them.
Scholarship Requirements
1. Applicant must be a high school senior who has successfully completed both the math and english sections of the California High School Exit Exam, be a eligible for in-state tuition at Santa Barbara City College and meet other requirements listed below. Applicants need not be a current or recent attendee of La Cuesta High School in Santa Barbara, California but if currently enrolled at La Cuesta, have at least 2 full semesters completed upon graduation.
2. To be considered for this scholarship the applicant must be registered and maintain enrollment at Santa Barbara City College (SBCC), in a degree of certificate program and maintain a GPA of 2.8 or better.
3. Applicant must have above average attendance with no more than 10 missed school days for non-medical reasons. An absence is defined as non-attendance in the classroom between the hours of 8:00 am and 12:00 pm on any regular school day. Applicants who can provide proof of a family hardship of emergency that required more than 10 missed days will be considered on a case by case basis. All applicants should have a parent or guardian's excuse for days missed for illness.
4. Applicant must provide two letters of recommendation, one letter from a current or former teacher and another from a current administrator. The format for these letters are available above.
5. Applicant must also enroll in the “Running Start” program at SBCC and complete it requirements.
8. Applicant will need to also participate in the Transfer Achievement Program (TAP) at SBCC upon enrolled.
Interviews (April-May)*
There will be an oral interview given to the top 8 qualified seniors.
Selection ( May-June)* Two recipients were chosen for the 2008-09 Scholarship Award.
The selection process includes a review of all submitted papers (application, essays, recommendations) and the interview.
Awards ( June)* The award recipient(s) will be acknowledged at the La Cuesta Awards Night, by the Founders of the Foundation.
