Keeping it Real ... with Life Skillz

4R.E.A.L. (Real Employment Achievement Learning)

4Real is available at La Cuesta High School starting November of 2007

4REAL is a four step program designed to walk youth through the actual process of choosing a job or career with the final outcome being an actual volunteer job. This project unlike many others has a real outcome. We will train others in the how to of completing job applications, the important parts of needed in a professional resume, how to present ourselves during actual interviews and then how to train others. Small stipend are available to each program participant as they completes their six-week position This step-by-step program will make a real-life connection between what we learn and how to use what we learn.

Business Partners (HELP WANTED)
We are continually adding to our list of business partners - Business partners hire the graduates of our 4REAL project while we provide 50% of the pay for the first two weeks. If uniforms or equipment is needed we get them donated or buy them ourselves. The business partner agrees to train our members so they can learn a new job skill. If you own a business and would like to talk about becoming a partner with us please call us or email us your contact information so we can discuss the project with you.

Office Skillz 103 (Learn while you Earn)

Do you know how to use a computer? Can you write a professional business letter, send email, create a Excel spreadsheet? Is it difficult for your make calls to businesses? What about using a fax machine or a copier? We will hire you to work in our office(s) and pay you as you learn. So if you don't know how to do any of these things learn on the job. Look for a ySTRIVE Job Center opening near you and come by to get an application or call or main office at (805) 576-7627. Learning Office Skills is essential for your success in the business world whether we seek the career or the educational path. We will provide comprehensive training, including but not limited to the following time management (Franklin-Covey system), banking and finance (Quicken and Quickbooks), Computer litracy (Microsoft - Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint).

Business Skillz 102 (Getting Up to Business)

Working for ySTRIVE will not only train you on how to work for someone else we will also train you in skills in Business Development and Event Planning. These two skills will open your eyes to a whole career path and are an essential part of all our projects for success and sustainability. We will learn how to identify a need in our community and meet that need through small youth-run businesses. With the help of business professionals working as volunteers, we will develop simple business plans, start small businesses and learn business management. This will teach us about economics from a real-life point of view. Understanding supply and demand, marketing, goal setting and business management are important especially when economics is a required course.

Life Skillz 101

Although conflict resolution and public speaking didn't top any of our lists we understand that these are necessary skills when working as a group, in a community or around the world. So we will, with the help of adult mentors offer conflict awareness training  to all of our members and staff from the younger homies and homegurls to the adults that we work with.
