History of ySTRIVE

In June of 2006 ySTRIVE held its last retreat as the state-funded Gang Risk Intervention Program (GRIP). The funding for GRIP ended but the need for a program to help gang-risk youth continued. On July 4, 2006 ySTRIVE was born, having its first meeting at a local resturant on Micheltorina Street. Because funding had been an issue with GRIP, the founders of ySTRIVE wanted to build a new program that would not and could not be stopped because someone decided not to fund it. The new program would not be resisted as the high school-based GRIP was.
